Dedication to service, community motivate Buxkemper in race for Levelland mayor

Sometimes the best way to give back is to serve and that is what Breann Buxkemper believes is the best way she can give back to the community that has given so much to her throughout her and her family’s life.

Buxkemper’s roots run deep in Levelland and Hockley County. Her grandparents moved to Levelland more than 80 years ago to build the Slaughter Gas Plant. After that, her parents made Levelland their home and she decided, if it was good enough for them, it was good enough, or better, for her.

“I love Levelland, I never left Levelland,” Buxkemper said. “Levelland has been great to me, it has been great to my family for generations, it has been great to my children.”

Buxkemper is married to Matt and together they have two children, Mattie and Mark, both students at Levelland ISD. Buxkemper said she is dedicated to this community because she hopes that one day her children will make Levelland their home and continue the generational legacy that began so many years ago.

“I’m loyal to this community,” Buxkemper said. “These are my people, this is my town, this is my home.”

One way she has been fulfilled in giving back to her community is through service. Buxkemper had her first taste of volunteering through the Youth Baseball Organization, where she served as treasurer. She helped run many tournaments at the Oxy Sports Complex during that time.

Buxkemper is also an active member of First Baptist Church where she and her family attend. In the community, Buxkemper is a member of committees through the Levelland Chamber of Commerce and she and her family participate in both the spring and fall community wide clean ups with Keep Levelland Beautiful.

In 2018, Buxkemper decided it was time for her to do more and she was elected City Council Member for District C. Later, she was appointed Mayor Pro Tem. During her time as city council member, Buxkemper volunteered on the task force designated to work with Hockley County Commissioners and the Hockley County Judge on a fire services agreement. She also served on the task force that helped develop the Master Parks Plan.

Through these appointments, Buxkemper has developed relationships with individuals throughout the community and recognizes the importance these partnerships are in developing a progressive city. She believes these relationships reflect the goals and ambitions of founding city leaders who had a vision for all that Levelland could provide for future citizens.

“I have seen why it’s so important for us to be able to work together and why these projects are so important to our community, and the type of impact they have on our residents,” Buxkemper said. “The fruits show in the people who come into and decide to live in our community.”

Buxkemper hopes that voters will see her dedication to seeing Levelland thrive for years to come and grant her the privilege of serving as the next mayor for the City of Levelland.

Early voting will begin April 22 and run through April 30. All early voting will be held at the Hockley County Elections Office, located at 911 Austin Street. Election day is Saturday, May Fourth. All registered voters who live within the city limits of Levelland are eligible to vote in the election.
